Lebowski? That's your name Dude...

This came out today. I think I'm gonna get it just for the amazing packaging alone.

Miss Nov '73

This mornings painting study was of a Miss NOV 1973. This young lady was flashin' her goodies a full four years before I was born. Makes you think. The study took about an hour.

Todays Painting

I slacked off on the painting yesterday because I couldn't decide what to paint and was tired of painting nekked ladies (GOD FORBID!) so today I mixed it up and did a portrait of Olympic medalist Allyson Felix. During the Olympics I was really pulling for her to beat the Jamaican sprinter in the 200m but alas she got the silver again. Latest news says that those jamaicans might have been juicing. Well duh, did you see how ripped that chick was? I can't give credit to the photographer of the reference because I got it off the web and it looked like it was a Chinese advertisement. I'm sorta proud of it being how the reference was of a pretty low resolution. The painting took about 5-6 hours to do. I tried painting while listening to football. Bad idea. I spent WAY too many times turning my head just to look at the fuzzy reception on my TV with the rabbit ears antenna. Crazy first week huh? Colts lose. Brady maybe out for the season. Chargers play pretty lackluster at the opener and lose. MADNESS!

Free Anatomy class

I just remembered that I said in Thursdays post that I'd put up some anatomy studies instead of more pretty ladies. So here they are. I try at least twice a week to make it to my local Borders and do some anatomy studies for an hour or two. First I start with some body studies from Goldfinger or Bridgman and then I snatch up some boxing or mma fight magazines and draw some of the figures from there. When I'm done I put the magazines back on the rack and come back the following day or two to repeat the whole process. Its free and I get do my own little figure study whenever I can. I prefer boxing and mma magazines because you get to see the anatomy in true motion and not just stagnant standing poses. Parts of the body are pinching and moving and you can really get the understanding of what is active and what is inactive during movement. I don't study from bodybuilder magazines because there bodies are too big and unnatural and they try to activate every muscle when they pose which defeats the whole purpose of the study. Plus its really gay.

I actually have a story about that. One day when I was doing my anatomy studies two ladies were buying their coffees at the Borders Cafe. I was doing torsos from the Goldfinger book when I noticed the ladies had taken a notice of me drawing. If you frequent drawing in public like myself you tend to catch this from time to time. In fact only the really old or the really young ever politely come up to me to see what I am drawing. Everyone one else usually sneaks around pretending not to take a peek. Anyway, I noticed the two ladies whispering about me. They were no doubt discussing whether I was a artist or not. Then as soon as their coffees were ready they both picked them up walked to the exit and just as they were leaving they both looked at each other and said as if settling a dispute "gay!" and walked out. I was more humored than offended but I have to admit I was thoroughly burned.

I am the Prince of your UNIVERSE!

Here is yesterdays painting along with the 20 minute lay-in and first hour progress. It took about 5 hours to finish. I was watching HBO's John Adams on DVD while painting it. I've just started it but so far its a really great show. I highly recommend it.

On a personal note: I have been eating tomatoes every day for the last 6 days straight! Thus proving that I, like Conner Macloud of the documentary "The Highlander" am Immortal. Take THAT Reaper!

New painting studies.

Here is this mornings study and yesterdays. This mornings was about an hour and yesterdays was about 5 hours. I think its safe to say my friendship now with the model of the portrait is estranged at best but I think I didn't let that effect me making a decent portrait study.

I think with my next post I'll post some of my anatomy studies or something so I don't seem like some "Jackie Treehorn" misogynist who treats objects like women painting nekked ladies all the time.

Go Team Venture!
