Its not you its me...

After what felt like a millennia I told last nights POTD that things weren't working out so I had her destroyed.

Just before the bell

Again it was late, a little past 11pm and I realized that I hadn't done my POTD yet. I was bored of naked women (blasphemy) so I googled many subjects and killed a ton of time till finally I chose on boxing. It was already past 11:30pm and figured it was too late to make anything good but I said, "screw it lets see what I can scribble in 20 minutes". Viola, the turd before you!

True Grit

I saw True Grit yesterday and I think the Cohen's might have completely made up for the complete turd-fest that was A Serious Man last year. The movie still isn't perfect though it lacked that tiny little bit of emotional investment hook that would have made it great. Still, it's one of the best films this year.

Also above is last nights POTD.

Squeeked one in

Last night around 9:30pm I realized that I hadn't painted anything for POTD and if I was going to keep it up I should paint SOMETHING. By 11pm this what I produced and then promptly returned to playing Fallout New Vegas. The POTD is referenced from a photo my sister took.

I "used to" alot of things Patience

I should have prepped for this one better with some reference instead of just jumping right into it. After more than a hour of just getting Patience's face to look sorta human I quickly gave up.

Doodles of the past week.

Here's some stuff from the zoo over the past week with some skull studies from yesterday and the day before. I have a week or so free from any work so I should try to restart POTD during the holiday.

The zoo picture from Wednesday is extra.

few zoo sketches

I haven't posted anything from my zoo sketchbook in a while so here's some of the OK ones from last month and this week. I'd post a painting but my oils have been ass right now. That's not a lack of confidence just me keeping it real.

I'm pretty!

To quote the great Muhammad Ali,

"I'm king of the world, I'm pretty, I'm pretty, I'm a bad man, you heard me I'm a bad man!"

My design Monster in the Closet just made BESTEE on the Month for the month of September on Threadless.com. You can see that HERE. And buy the shirt HERE.

Epic waste of time...but fun

Somebody crossed the classic old school video game Oregon Trail with Zombies and got Oregan Trail. Checkout my score. Everyone survived and I had supplies to spare. BOOYA!

Happy Halloween

Expose 8

One of my pieces I did for the game Legends of Norrath is seeing print in the magazine Expose. Special thanks to my AD Derek for recommending me and Kirsten and her husband for help in reference for this and other designs of that set.

Jacob's Art

I felt like posting some art from my little 1st grader nephew. The little punk is plagiarizing my work! (kidding) I don't know who the psycho cowboy with the machete, knife shirt and sidearm is but I hope it isn't somebody he's met at his new home in the country.
By the way, for those who weren't able to pickup my Threadless Tee "Monster in the Closet" the last time it has just been reprinted so pick it up here.

Let The Right One In

Last week I listened to some movie critics talk about this movie which has recently been remade here in America. It's definitely a slow burn but its probably one of the best vampire flicks I've seen in a LONG time. Check it out you can stream it in HD on Netflix.

More Proofs

I got some proofs from the Scars of Mirrodin game. If anyone out there wants to buy a signed one or personal art send a mail.

On a side note, I wish I knew how to quit you Venture Bros. That is still one funny ass TV show.

Warcraft proofs

I got some proof cards from Blizzard the other day so I guess these are getting printed soon. If you want to buy a signed card or some art on the back send me a message. I should be getting proofs from the Scars of Mirrodin game soon too. Above is another sample of one of the pieces I did for the set.

Stuff that is seeing print

Some of the art that I did for the up and coming card game Scars of Mirrodin has been leaked so I think its safe to post at least one of them. Also a T-shirt I designed for Threadless has just been printed. You can get yourself this SWEET T-shirt right here. Get it...sweet, because its about cookies...never mind.

The Cove. A MUST SEE FILM!

I'm a little late in the game for seeing this film but I just finished watching this great documentary that I think everyone should go rent and see. Its called The Cove. It is about the nonsensical slaughter of dolphins in Japan that is still going on to this day. Starting again this September in fact. I can not stress to you enough how much you need to go see this film. Its currently a little past 1 o'clock in the morning and I should either be painting for work or asleep but instead I feel I have to make a post so anyone passing by this blog will to go rent and see this documentary.

By the way, don't go to Sea World either.

More meh

I tried more detail to that Kong study. I also did a quick pinup for a POTD. She looks kinda scary and man-ish. Oh well, I guess I'll scrub that canvas again.

Saturday, April 3, 2010

To quote the great Willie Nelson-

"Turn out the lights, the party's over they say that all good things must end." I didn't paint at all on Thursday so my painting of the day or (POTD) experiment ended at 32 consecutive days. Which isn't bad since the last few times only lasted a few days to two weeks. I touched up the Kong study a little for an hour or so last night while baking sugar cookies. They turned out a little bready and probably require frosting or maybe they'll be good with tea.

Kong

Last night I spent about an hour slapping some color on to the Frazetta Kong study of the previous day. I was too tired to take it any further. Also, I think I'm getting close to the one month anniversary of this POTD experiment.

The Eighth Wonder

Last nights POTD was a brown pick-out of Frazetta's Eighth Wonder. Work time was about an hour.

Here is last nights POTD.

Little Frazetta again

Last night I tried fixing the previous POTD but it just wasn't working out so she has been sent to painting Valhalla. Instead I did a tiny super quick Frazetta.

Tired

Here's last nights POTD. I liked the pose of this reference. It has a nice mix of casual, funny and sexy but I was too tired from work to take it seriously. I can't remember the work time but it wasn't long.
