The Eighth Wonder

Last nights POTD was a brown pick-out of Frazetta's Eighth Wonder. Work time was about an hour.

Little Frazetta again

Last night I tried fixing the previous POTD but it just wasn't working out so she has been sent to painting Valhalla. Instead I did a tiny super quick Frazetta.

Tired

Here's last nights POTD. I liked the pose of this reference. It has a nice mix of casual, funny and sexy but I was too tired from work to take it seriously. I can't remember the work time but it wasn't long.

More zoo and last nights POTD

Last nights POTD from life was pretty rough going but it still counts. Work time was 3 hours with breaks every 20 minutes for the model. Today I went zoo sketching again with some old classmates.

Polar Bear Plunge

Went to the zoo today to see the new Polar Bear Plunge renovation. It was alright but very crowded for a weekday. My sketches were off too.

They all Float

Last night I tried mixing up the POTD again and did a landscape. Its the first landscape I've ever done in fact so its suckness gets a mulligan. Its reference comes from a beat up old shack I saw in Colorado while visiting my folks a few years back. Work time was close to 2 hours but I got bored very quickly it.

Great Showdowns

Scott Campbell is a genius. Visit his website.

Last Airbender

Here is last nights POTD. I can't remember the work time because I was distracted from watching Avatar the Last Airbender on Netflix. I didn't work on the painting long and quickly got bored of her but for an anime that Avatar sure is pretty cool.

Out of the way.

Last nights POTD was another small one. I snuck it in just before midnight.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Too nice to be inside.

Work is stacking up but I just couldn't stand to stay indoors again so I went zoo sketching for a short bit. The sketches are on the "meh" side with way too much erasing but the weather was too nice to pass up. Note the fortune cookie I got today post zoo sketching- "You are heading in the right direction". According to Homer Simpson cookies are always right because "they are so sweet". Lets see I live alone in mediocrity...yup, touchdown for the cookie.

Medusa

I guess I didn't really have a plan for last nights POTD and it shows. Its still counts as a POTD and its not really all that bad anyway. Work time about 3 hours and I was watching Daffy and Porky cartoons this time.

Big BOOT-AYYYYYY

Here is last nights POTD. Work time was about 3-4 hours I can't really remember exactly because I was watching Bugs Bunny cartoons while painting her.

Its Rainin' men

Well, its not quite raining men since its the same model Johnathan from Thursday's POTD but two nude dude paintings from life in three days...that's a bit much. I gotta paint a nekked chick tonight or tomorrow just to bring balance back to the force. Work time 2.5 hours with breaks every 20 minutes for the model.

The Pledge

I saw a REALLY good movie last night. Its called the Pledge directed by Sean Penn starring Jack Nicholson. I regret not knowing about this film until a few weeks ago when some PBS radio critic was talking about great movies that get over looked for Academy Awards. I know nobody reads this but just in case go rent this film! POTD took almost 2 hours.

Dude from life

Yesterdays POTD was from life. I think its my 1st nude dude painting from life. It turned out alright but I prefer painting nekked ladies for obvious reasons. Work time was 3 hours with breaks every 20 minutes for the model.

Suicide Girl POTD

The Frazetta studies were getting old so last night's POTD reference was of a suicide girl. Work time a little over 3.5 hours.

Glenn Barr

If I ever became rich one of the first things I'd buy would be a few Glenn Barr paintings. I really dig his work and yesterday I "attempted" to imitate him in the POTD. It was small, quick and horrible. "That's what she said!" Ba-da-bump!

Little bit tighter

Here is yesterdays POTD. I think if I made it any more tighter it will stop being fun. I just registered my Pro pass for Comic-Con and saw that its already nearly sold out for regular passes. WILD.

Moon Maid Progress

Yesterdays POTD was an hour or so of rendering the days previous POTD. I should have the rest done today or close to it if work allows.

45 minute quick POTD

I tried fixing the hale girl study but got frustrated and scrubbed her and painted on top of her this Frazetta. It only stayed a 45 minute quick because I was itching for some more Mass Effect 2. Don't judge me!

Saturday, March 13, 2010

meh again

Lost interest in yesterdays POTD fast and barley got a lay-in started. I may or may not fix it.

Friday, March 12, 2010

Life study

Here is yesterdays POTD from life. Time was about 3 hours with breaks every 20 minutes for the model.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

3 times in a week.

Went zoo sketching with a old classmate today.

Good enough for government work

If paint is hitting board it still counts as a POTD.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Sorry Gil

Tried fixing her but after an hour or so no dice. I watched Con Air on Netflix last night and wow as shlocky and over the top as that film is its pretty tame by today's crappy improbability standards. Still a fun film though.

New zoo with Janey

I was told that a orangutan named Janey liked to interact with zoo visitors since she was once a home raised orangutan. Today she did that for me. I started drawing her and she came right up to glass to watch me draw her for a while. I don't think she was impressed with my sketches though because she stayed only for a few minutes. I should have showed her the stuff in my bag.

She looked good last night but now...

Here is yesterday's POTD. I haven't decided to try and fix her for tonight's POTD or just cut bait and make a new one.

A very wet zoo trip

Yesterday I got to go zoo sketching with some old classmates from Watts which was fun. I just wish they had picked a better less rainy and wet time to go sketching. I didn't get much done for fear of getting my sketchpad wet.
As for my 1 painting of the day or 1POTD from now on was pretty lackluster.

It still counts right?

Yesterdays painting of the day started with me trying to fix up the day 's previous Hale study but after a little more than a hour I gave up. If you squint and look at it from far away its not too bad. I also started the real 1 painting of the day but chose to take a little Mass Effect 2 break right at the start....I probably don't have to explain further.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Damn you Mass Effect 2!

I'd LIKE to blame yesterdays painting failure on the sirens call that is Mass Effect 2 but I don't think that is a good enough excuse. I don't know if its possible or worth going back to it to fix it. Maybe one day I'll take a study seriously and do a long one. The cool thing about short studies is if you screw it up you can tell yourself "ah its good for just a few hours" you can't do that with a +15 hour study. At least yesterdays zoo sketches were ok. Work time about 2.5-3 hours.

Friday, March 5, 2010

yup more frazetta

Here is yesterdays painting of the day and the touch up of the one previous. Work time was about half the length of the movie Dusk till Dawn for the Conan. Still a cool flick.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Frazetta again

Yesterday's painting of the day was another Frazetta. I think I bite off more than I could chew and I don't know if I'll go further with it. About 4 hours work time.

Zoo pictures

I got some zoo sketches in today but I think the pictures I got of the meerkats and pygmy hippo were better.

Frazetta study

Day 3 of the return of "1 painting a day" was better that day 2. I just jumped in with no pencil and did the lay-in with transparent brown. The proportions are off but that's expected. Total time it took me was maybe 4.5-5 hours with plenty of breaks to watch Gentlemen Broncos on Netflix. Review: Its not as good as Napoleon Dynamite but it still had some laughs here and there. It certainly wasn't no Black Dynamite. Odd, I just realized that some of my most favorite comedies involve bowling, Mel Brooks, and the word dynamite in its title. hmmm.

Bonus painting of the day: 20 minutes total time.

Bad Start

If this is the start of my return to the "1 painting a day" I don't think its going to last. Maybe my 5th attempt at baking cookies while painting this distracted me. She's all misshaped and wonky. Even the nudity is sorta disturbing to me for some reason. She has since been scrubbed and sent to painting Valhalla and yes I was baking. I could have said I was doing something less effeminate like practicing Kung Fu or working on a GTO but....meh.....cookies. And they aren't half bad either.

What a lovely couch

Here is last nights "study". I think I might try the 1 painting a day thing again. No doubt I'll slack off again but its worth a try. She took me a little over 3 hours. I think I need to fix the head and get some decent wallpaper up.
