Christmas Cards!

I just got some new Proofs in the mail today for Warcraft's card game. They are from the Winter Veil series I guess that I did earlier this year. The little snow men ones are metallic and are tinier then normal cards. Send me a mail if you want to buy one or want custom art on them or whatever.

Playmesh art and a Vampire

I just got paid for this vampire girl I painted some months ago so I guess its cool to post her. She's supposed to be a burn victim so thats why shes more "ghouly" and less "sparkly". It was a nice change of pace. I hope I get to do more vampire freelance in the future. Also attached is some art that I did for my in-house job at Playmesh. If you have a mobile device like a ipod, iphone, tablet, or droid go download the game Valor now its free! If you have a facebook stop by here too.

Vancleef part 2

I never got the proofs of the original Vancleef card. I'm willing to bet they are in my sisters apartment in San Diego in a pile of garbage along with all the other mail that should have been mailed to me because she's too lazy to mail me my stuff! Anyway, I got proofs for my second Vancleef painting the other day. They made a tall version and a cropped shiny metallic version. Send me a mail if you want one signed or some custom art on the back.

Its been a while since my last post but to be honest I've just been too busy with both full time and freelance work to bother with anything personal. Hopefully after my last batch of freelance has passed I'll be able to get back to painting. Anyway, why am I posting then you ask? Well imaginary friend, I saw a really good movie today. Actually I've been wanting to go see this movie for weeks now but every person I've asked to go see it with me has found ways to blow me off so I decided to go old school and watch it alone. Thank you status quo. I've always been a big fan of Wes Andersons films from Bottle Rocket to now Moonrise Kingdom. Anderson, best known for his particular "style" of film has always had a fair balance of both style and substance to his films something that can't so easily be said for other "style" diven directors like Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino. If you enjoy Wes's other films like The Life Aquatic or The Darjeeling Limited than this film should fit right into your tastes and you shouldn't hesitate to go see it. But then again you've probably already seen this film before me and don't need my endorsement. For everyone else, if you are a fan of good interesting movies with substance and heart and are looking for that first really good movie of the year you should give this film a try.
Also attached is some old art that I did for World of Warcraft last year. As soon as my sister gets around to mailing my proofs of these designs they will be available for purchase. All of the designs were mostly digital so don't bother asking for originals. cheers

Cupertino sketchbook

I've pretty much abandoned all my other sketchbooks and have started on a new one. This one is my Cupertino sketchbook. Its mostly of studies I've found off the internet and coworkers in meetings. There is one big difference in this sketchbook from my others though. I'm going to draw in it entirely in pen or more specifically ballpoint pen. I've always used a pencil as a crutch so as not to make any mistakes. But I'm taking a baby step and drawing all my new stuff in pen now.

Life Drawing in San Jose.

I haven't painted in oil at all since moving up to Cupertino. I've been just too busy. Usually that is a bullshit statement but I really have been too busy with work and moving and adjusting that I haven't been able to do anything but the essentials. I have done one thing tho and thats returned to Life Drawing. It's something I haven't done since 2009 at Pat's studio in SD. I've been going to San Jose State's life drawing workshops whenever I have openings from work. The pics above are some of my better ones of my 4 or so trips to SJSU. They are mostly all 2's and 5's with one 10 minute page from my first day back. I'm pretty rusty but I'm not as bad as I was expecting. I guess my life drawing muscle hadn't completely atrophied.

Well we're movin on up!

To the east siiiiide! Actually the north side but who doesn't love the Jeffersons?
I moved! I have left my native soil of San Diego and went north to Cupertino for new adventures and well...stability. My new full time job is with Playmesh and now I'm helping make this awesome game called Valor you can get on your mobile phone here. I still get to do the freelance work too so its WIN WIN! Plus the people up here are really nice. Also above is my last drawing I did in San Diego almost a month ago.

Secret World of Arrietty

Yesterday I went to the zoo and tried doing some watercolors again aaand... well something is lost in translation. Is it possible to make watercolors less girly? Probably, but I sure as hell don't know how to do it.

Speaking of girly, after making these dandy watercolors I went to go see Studio Ghibli's new flick The Secret World of Arrietty and kill whats left of my masculinity. Yes, a grown man with no child or female acquaintance in tow to mask his love for pretty pretty cartoons (flickers eyelashes like a dandy) but boy is this film pretty. Just take a look at the attached picture of the leaves. I'd recommend the film just for the beautifully painted environments alone. The story is not Ghibli's best but probably worth a rent.

Also shown is a photo of a sleeping tiger balancing a ghost water bottle on its hip.

Lions and tigers and Newts?

Attached are some Blizzard Cards that may or may have not seen print since I don't have proofs of them but I've been given the OK to show them. They date back to 2009 and 2010.

While at the zoo yesterday (sorry no good sketches) I saw a Newt. Not the animal but presidential hopeful (yuck) Newton Leroy Gingrich. I think he wanted to yell at the foreign wild animals for taking away jobs from all the white God fearing American wild animals.

Also posted is a study from yesterday that just wasn't going my way from the get go. I know you should only show your successes but this bitch was so frustrating she needs to be seen and NO Valentines day wasn't a factor. Jesus, weren't you people satisfied in trying to buy each others love in December?

The Warriors did it!

In my last post I said I didn't follow comics but that was a lie because I realized that there is one comic I definitely follow every week and that is Skadi the Barbarian at dummcomics.com. Every Thursday I surf over to dumm comics and read the newest Skadi strip. Katie Rice and Luke Cormican are incredibly talented and funny. I also have a secret crush on Katie. Our children would be attractive and artistically talented because of their mother and most likely get short sightedness from me because I used to wear glasses before I paid a Doctor to shoot lasers into my skull.
This Skadi fan art is my second attempt at being productive with my insomnia so instead of just watching movies till I pass out as usual I did a little oil painting to go along with my evening ritual. In hindsight I should have drawn something up first instead of stumbling into the painting to see what would happen. Skadi's a little too vampy and I couldn't decide on what to do with the background which is too red everywhere. I was watching the movie The Warriors while painting this and was pretty much done with it before it got to the "WARRIORS COME OUT TO PLAY-AY!" part. Everything has to stop once you get to that part of the movie.

Also posted is a drawing my little Nephew made. He's already a fan of Monty Python and he doesn't even know it yet.

Strong enough for a man but made for a Woman

As big a nerd as I am I don't really read or follow comic books outside of the movies anymore at least not since High School which was a long time ago. This is probably why I don't make fan art outside of commissions. Today I felt like painting a nekked lady but for some reason she ended up turning into Wonder Woman and you know what? It was the most fun I've had painting in oil in ages! I should do more fan art. I was watching Street Fighter (Sonny Chiba) and Street Fighter's Last Revenge while painting this so I guess it took me 4 hours.

Also attached are some cards I did for Blizzard last year. I have proofs and the original oil painting of the Gilblin Plunderer for sale.

Why Watercolor?

When I found my cool used easel at a second had store early last year it also had some bonus watercolors shoved up in it. In late November I finally decided to use them and this is what was shat out. Above are my first 4 experiments with watercolor ever.
